What does God say about Jesus?

Jesus was the most important and incredible man that ever lived.  But He was more than just a man.  He is God who came in human flesh.  He is the second person of the Trinity, yet He restrained His glory to become a man like us.  He did this as part of God’s eternal plan to redeem people.  He came to be the perfect substitute and sacrifice for people.

Philippians 2:6-8 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

So Jesus lived and died for us. But He didn’t stay dead. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven, where He remains to this day. Consider the following claims Jesus made while He was still on earth.

  • He claimed to be the Messiah

John 4:25, 26 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

  • He claimed to be the bread of life

John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

  • He claimed to be the light of the world

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

  • He claimed to be eternal

John 8:57, 58 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

  • He claimed to have power to forgive sins

Luke 5:24, 25 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

  • He claimed to be the only way of salvation

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

  • He claimed to be God

John 10:30, 36 I and my Father are one. ...Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
